District Projects

At the District Conference held every two years, members vote on projects that they wish to support as a District Project for the next two years.

At the District Conference held in Bunbury in 2003, project selection promoted a lot of passionate debate. Members did not want to give up the Breast Care Cushion Project that had been the district project for the past biennium, but also wanted to support the Birthing Kit Project as a new project for the next two years.

Members believed their clubs could support both projects and voted overwhelmingly to do so. This was an unprecedentd action which saw District 23 Clubs supporting Breast Care Cushions for patients who have undergone breast surgery and Birthing Kits for developing countries. These have now become 'Continuing District Projects'.

A new District project which was accepted at the 2007 District Conference in Hobart is the 'Yarri Wada: Strong for Country Puppet Project'. This project was instigated through the Zonta Club of Perth as a direct request from the women elders of Ngarinyin, Worrora and Wunambal clans of the Western Kimberley region in Western Australia.  The aim is to use puppets to bridge the gap between old and young, preserve cultural knowledge and work together to address health and educational issues.

Please visit the web pages for these three projects to find out more about them.
